Historical Sites on Prince Edward Island
  
Province House National Historic Site Of Canada 

Where the "Fathers of Confederation" were inspired to create one of the world's greatest nations, Canada! View the award winning film "A Great Dream" and visit the restored historic chambers that capture the spirit of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference. Open year round, this historic building has also been the seat of the provincial government since its construction in 1847.

 

Founders Hall (Canada's Birthplace Pavilion)

In 1864, delegates to the famous Charlottetown Conference arrived at the Historic Charlottetown Waterfront. Today, it is the site of Founders' Hall-Canada's Birthplace Pavilion, a heritage attraction and retail boutique that tells the story of Canada from its inception in 1864 up until modern day.

  
Marine/Rail Historical Park


At the foot of Confederation Bridge this park commemorates the former ferry and rail services on PEI. Interpretive displays and picnic area available.



Port la Joye/Fort Amherst National Historic Site


The French established the first European settlement on the Island in 1720. When the British captured Port-la-Joye in 1758 they built Fort Amherst in the same location

 

Eptek Art & Culture Centre

Located on the Summerside Waterfront Eptek Art & Culture Centre is open year round with regularly changing exhibits ranging from art and crafts to history and science.

 

Acadian Museum

Follow the odyssey of Island Acadians from 1720 to present; discover treasures related to the Acadian's 300 year presence on Prince Edward Island. Investigate your connections through the on-site genealogy resources. You can also learn in the outdoors with the on-site heritage trail interpretive panels depicting the many facets of the Acadian story.

 

Beaconsfield Historic House

Tour impressive Beaconsfield Historic House, build in 1877 as the residence of a wealthy shipbuilder. It is an enduring symbol of Victorian elegance and its garden and verandah offer a perfect view of beautiful Charlottetown Harbour. Take in an evening concert in Carriage House or liven up your vacation with a family visit to the Children's Festival weekday mornings during July and August.

 

Orwell Corner Historic Village

Surround yourself with the mood, flavour, charm and activities of a small Prince Edward Island agricultural crossroads in the 1890s. Engage in the regular daily programming (July and August) ranging from candle and ice-cream making to visiting the general store or witnessing the blacksmith at work. Feel the call of the music with the Wednesday night ceilidhs!

 

Elmira Railway Museum

Elmira offers the chance to experience what it was like to 'ride the rails' in Prince Edward Island with the miniature railway and the impressive model train display. Exhibits recount the fascinating story of railroading on the island and the recreated office and waiting room provide an opportunity to truly encounter the era of the railway.
